The Global Alliance has reached a pivotal moment in it's growth. During the Summit in Costa Rica an Interim Leadership Council was formed to bring the GA to a new level of organizational excellence. Each member of the ILC brings different passions and perspectives to the GA. This is a space where ILC members can give voice to that passion, and a chance to tell the world exactly why their hearts called them into this work.

I have been Secretary since 2005, the first moments of the network. At the same time I began my work in peacebuilding with PATRIR and because of that I was given the opportunity to serve the GA secretariat.

I am happy now to be working hand in hand with Kelsey Visser within the Leadership Council. Together we can build more and capitalize on the results of the Summit. My dedication and commitment will only grow as a result.

With Birger Norup, Denmark and the European group we are aiming towards more cooperation on the continent and the first signs of partnership are forming.

The youth we have touched in Costa Rica are ready and willing to support our cause and get involved and so our duty is to give them the space and support structure to do that.

This work is life-long and I would love to grow old in this community and see each Ministry forming and being supported by the GA as well as new campaigns starting and developing.

The Costa Rica Summit was a watershed moment for the Global Alliance. The record number of attendees, the official hosting by the Costa Rican government, establishment of the second GA-inspired ministry for peace, opening remarks by the president of the country and Nobel Peace Laureate Oscar Arias, closing remarks by other top government officials (including the new Minister of Justice and Peace) and attendance in the audience by a second Nobel Peace Laureate (Jodi Williams),and the passion and creative ideas expressed during the Next Steps Days all mark a GA coming of age.

A global consciousness shift toward a culture of peace is happening and accelerating. It is still under the radar of the general public, and the GA has a unique and critical role to play in boosting it onto the radar screens and boosting the acceleration.

Excited by this potential, I felt called to step forward and take this particular seat on the Interim Leadership Council because it is the seat that "holds the whole." That is, it holds a comprehensive, integrative, systemic view of the organization as a whole. And thus the name change from "finance, budget, and organizational structure" (boring!!) to "organizational integration and strategic intention." Still with those functions, but the new name better articulates the essence and meaning of the seat.

A couple of years ago, through my life experiences I came to the clear realization that my calling and passion was Peace Education. While studying at the University for Peace, I realized the importance of peacebuilding through the deliberate design of infrastructures for peace. After working to develop a peacebuilding structure at UPEACE, I took part in the Global Alliance Summit in Costa Rica. Given this momentous time and the unique position of the GA as the global advocate for peace infrastructure, I believe the GA can play a very important role in creating a peaceful world. I felt drawn to take the Peace Education seat on the Interim Leadership Council as a natural step in my life, in order to contribute to work in and global advocacy of peace education and peace infrastructures as an essential component of a culture of peace.
